Head of SEO

Job Description

Who are we?

Hello, we’re IG Group. We are a publicly-traded FTSE250 FinTech company who run mobile, web and desktop platforms that help our clients trade stocks & shares, leveraged products, Futures & Options and Crypto.

We are ambitious. Over 340,000 people already use our platforms. We’re global with offices in 18 countries and products in 16 regions. We’re hungry to move faster, ship better product for our customers and grow our user base. We believe in high autonomy, and we want people who are looking to do things differently in order to create better experiences for our customers.

We work in cross-functional teams and are laser focused on increasing the number of active clients we serve to drive sustainable growth.

What’s the role?

We are hiring a Head of SEO for our UK marketing team to lead our geo-focused organic search strategy. This role will drive scalable customer acquisition through commercially focused SEO and ASO, working from our London office in a hybrid model (3 days in office).

The mission is to position organic search as a core growth engine for the business, connecting technical excellence and content strategy directly to commercial outcomes: traffic, applications, and first trades. Critically, while our SEO efforts have historically focused on OTC derivatives, we are now strategically pivoting to drive volume growth through our investing (Share Dealing) and crypto products. You'll need to realign our organic search strategy to support this shift, capturing high-intent users in these growing segments. Additionally, you'll need to future-proof our organic strategy by adapting to AI-driven search platforms and answer engines, ensuring IG maintains visibility as search behavior fundamentally shifts from traditional keyword searches to conversational AI queries.

While you'll partner with our central SEO hub in Poland on technical performance, you'll own the strategy and execution that drives customer acquisition through organic search in our key markets.

Your role in the team

The UK is IG Group's biggest market by revenues, and IG is the biggest brand in the UK leveraged trading sector (by revenues). As such this is a prominent role in the UK team and the wider company. SEO represents a significant untapped opportunity for customer acquisition, and we need an experienced leader who sees organic search not just as a technical discipline, but as a commercial growth lever.

This is a critical role for the UK marketing leadership team, reporting to the Director of Performance & Lifecycle Marketing.

The UK is also a huge opportunity for IG. We start from a position of strength but we have opportunities to diversify into adjacent products; challenge other brands with higher customer volumes (but lower revenues); and grow engagement with our existing, loyal base.

What will you do?

  • Lead the SEO and ASO strategy for geo-level markets, focusing on traffic growth from high-volume, high-impact keywords that drive customer acquisition

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive SEO strategy that realigns our organic search focus from OTC derivatives to high-growth opportunities in investments and crypto, identifying and prioritising high-intent keywords, content gaps, and competitive positioning in these segments

  • Adapt SEO strategy for AI-driven search platforms (Google SGE, ChatGPT, Perplexity) by optimising content for featured snippets, answer engines, and conversational search queries, ensuring IG maintains visibility as search behavior evolves beyond traditional keyword-based discovery

  • Partner with the central SEO hub in Poland to maintain strong technical SEO health (crawlability, indexation, site speed, structured data) while owning local execution

  • Prioritise content creation and optimisation efforts to maximise organic traffic and commercial outcomes, not just output volume

  • Set and track KPIs across technical and content SEO, including share of search, organic traffic growth, keyword coverage, and conversion performance

  • Manage one direct report and challenge agencies to deliver clear results against defined KPIs

  • Provide regular reporting and insights to senior leadership, framing SEO impact in business terms

  • Integrate SEO and ASO with broader marketing activity including Paid Media, CRM, Loyalty, and Brand initiatives

  • Champion a data-driven, ROI-focused SEO culture within the team

  • Stay ahead of search algorithm changes and industry trends to maintain competitive advantage

What will you need for this role?

To succeed in this role, we think you’ll need:

  • 5+ years of SEO experience, including 2+ years leading a growth-focused SEO function with proven ability to drive organic growth at scale in a competitive industry (ideally fintech, trading, e-commerce, or other high-competition verticals)

  • Strong grounding in both technical SEO and content SEO strategy, with knowledge of ASO and its interplay with organic search

  • Commercially minded approach: you see SEO as a growth engine and can connect organic initiatives directly to business outcomes

  • Data-driven mindset with proficiency in tools such as Ahrefs, Pi Datametrics, GA4, Looker, and ASO platforms

  • Experience in matrix organisations: comfortable partnering with centralised teams while owning local execution

  • Strong communication skills: able to influence senior leadership by framing SEO impact in business terms

  • Leadership capabilities to manage direct reports and agencies effectively, setting direction and holding them accountable

  • Hands-on and proactive: comfortable in a lean team structure with big ambitions
