Now we’re ready to level up: evolving our core link-building team into a fully fledged Off-Page SEO / AEO Department that drives authority across backlinks, digital PR, social, community, and emerging AI search platforms.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Director of SEO to streamline and modernize our link-building operation, architect a scalable multi-channel Off-Page SEO / AEO Department, and take over and operationalize our AI-powered digital PR offering. You’ll own the entire off-page growth engine—building the strategy, leading a distributed team, driving measurable SEO impact for our clients, and collaborating with leadership on long-term vision.
Key Responsibilities
1) Strategy & Innovation
- Develop and execute a forward-looking off-page SEO strategy that integrates link building, digital PR operations, social/community signals, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).
- Translate company goals into quarterly roadmaps, clear KPIs, and repeatable playbooks.
- Champion automation and AI tools to shift the team’s focus from manual delivery to higher-value strategic advisory.
2) Operations, Team & Client-Service Leadership
- Restructure the 8-person link-building team and SEO Account Strategists around automation-enhanced workflows, freeing up at least 30% of their time for strategic consulting.
- Recruit, mentor, and grow specialized talent (e.g., Digital PR Operations Lead, Community Outreach Specialists) as the department scales.
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs to continuously upskill the team, keeping them updated on evolving industry trends, SEO best practices, and new technologies.
- Maintain rigorous quality control for prospecting, outreach, content, and link placements—safeguarding DoFollow’s reputation for white-hat excellence.
3) Client Experience & Reporting
- Design and launch an integrated reporting framework that surfaces performance insights in real time and supports strategic conversations.
- Elevate client communication—training SEO Account Strategists on proactive advisory, goal alignment, and storytelling—to reduce churn and extend contract lifetimes.
- Continuously refine internal tooling and education to keep the team and clients on the cutting edge of off-page SEO.
4) Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Marketing & Sales to align off-page initiatives with revenue goals and upsell opportunities.
- Work closely with the Product Development team to take over and operationalize the AI-driven digital PR offering within the Off-Page SEO / AEO Department.
- Act as internal evangelist for external signals—educating all teams on best practices and integrating SEO thinking across the organization.
5) Performance & Department Governance
- Define, track, and report departmental KPIs to the CEO & COO in quarterly business reviews—providing actionable insights, resource needs, and strategic recommendations.
- Drive department profitability by optimizing workflows, leveraging automation, and ensuring healthy margins without compromising quality.
- Monitor industry trends and algorithm updates, proactively adjusting strategy to keep clients ahead of the curve.
About You
- Driven intrapreneur with strong ownership — you proactively identify opportunities, take end-to-end responsibility, and move initiatives from idea to scaled operation.
- 10+ years in SEO/digital marketing with deep expertise in off-page tactics and proven success leading multi-channel link & PR programs.
- History of managing and scaling teams (ideally 8+ people) and budgets in agencies or high-growth B2B settings (~$4-6 M ARR, ~30+ staff, or larger).
- Data-savvy and process-driven; comfortable building SOPs, dashboards, and forecasting SEO impact in business terms.
- Adept at leveraging AI/automation for outreach, prospecting, and content ideation.
- Strong relationship-builder with media contacts, influencers, and community moderators.
- High EQ leader able to inspire change, reduce burnout, and foster a culture of learning and accountability.
- Excellent written & verbal communication; capable of translating SEO strategy into C-level language.
Success Metrics (First 6-12 Months)
- Link-building operation streamlined via automation and new SOPs, resulting in >=95% on-time delivery and a 30% reallocation of team capacity to strategic advisory.
- Churn reduced by >=20% and average client NPS maintained at >=8 through improved reporting and proactive communication.
- Off-Page SEO / AEO Department fully operational — digital PR offering integrated and delivering Tier-1 media wins; social/community playbooks live across key accounts.
- Client portfolio growth: measurable uplift in organic performance and >=15% net budget expansion from existing clients.
- Department profitability meets or exceeds agreed margin targets, demonstrating efficient, scalable operations.
