Job Description

Daily Mail US is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and technically skilled Deputy Head of SEO to support the Head of SEO and audience team in New York City. Applicants must demonstrate a sound understanding of SEO best practices and be able to apply those principles in a fast-paced digital publishing setting.

The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, thrive under pressure and have a passion for growing new audiences and driving traffic to the Mail brand. They will have a solid understanding of editorial, commercial and technical SEO and be able to articulate the value of SEO to senior stakeholders. They will also be able to lead a growing and diverse team and support the Head of SEO in devising and implementing new strategies across the newsroom. 

 

Job description

  • Alongside the head of SEO, plan and implement site-wide SEO strategy for all channels of DailyMail.com
  • Optimize dozens of stories each day across every section of the website for organic search, Google Discover and Google News
  • Work closely with all editors and writers to implement SEO best practices into workflow and articles; provide feedback on headlines, images and article copy
  • Pitch stories for the website that will drive traffic off-platform and also fit in with Daily Mail’s editorial style
  • Monitor, analyze and report on key SEO metrics including traffic, rankings, page views, clickthrough rate etc. and create actionable insights to improve performance
  • Work closely with social media and audience teams to grow the Daily Mail’s traffic and authority in the US
  • Be an enthusiastic evangelist for SEO in the newsroom and train dozens of writers and editors on SEO best practices

 

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in news SEO or digital journalism with an audience focus
  • Proven experience driving traffic on organic search for a news publication
  • Experience optimizing stories for Google Discover and/or Google News
  • Experience using Google Trends, SEMRush, NewsDashboard, Sistrix or other comparable SEO tools
  • Deep knowledge of the Google algorithm and SEO landscape
  • Technical SEO knowledge and Excel/data analysis skills a plus
